Summer Reading Program
During the months of June and July a summer reading program is sponsored by the library. These months children may read books, attend programs, and receive awards and prizes for their reading efforts. The Ennis Rotary Club, The Friends of the Library, the Texas State Library, and the Ennis Public Library sponsor the program.
Story Time
From August through May, the Ennis Public Library offers a story time for pre-school children, ages 3 to 5, Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM for about 30 minutes. The program includes songs, finger plays, stories and a whole lot of fun. Then at 10:30 AM we have a 15 minute program for children ages 2 and below. Day Care Centers are encouraged to schedule a story time for their children on Monday or Tuesday mornings.
During June and July, as part of the Summer Reading Program, the Ennis Public Library offers special summer story time programs. Summer story time programs begin at 10 am on Wednesdays and last for 1 hour. These programs will include performances by professional storytellers, musicians, puppeteers and more.
Teacher's Collections
Often a teacher's classroom resources are limited when it comes to children's free time reading enrichment. The Ennis Public Library will check out a collection of up to 32 books for six weeks to a teacher for use in the classroom. Home teachers may also check out class collections. The teachers select the books themselves. A teacher's library card is used for this service.
